Foster Care in Wales

Our Approach to Foster Care

At Safer Fostering, we believe foster parents are co-professionals—valued partners in creating safe, nurturing environments for children. We work alongside them, offering tailored support and shared learning experiences that empower them to parent therapeutically and confidently.

Our foster parents are not only caregivers—they are experts in the lives of the children they support. We respect their insight, champion their voice, and ensure they’re never alone in the challenges they face.

What makes our approach unique is that our founders have personal experience parenting children who’ve experienced trauma. This deep understanding shapes a service that genuinely supports, advocates for, and stands with foster families every step of the way.

Our Foster Care Approach

Why Choose Safer Fostering?

Our therapeutic approach ensures a healthy connection between foster parent and child in Wales

Therapeutic Approach

Rooted in the lived experience of our founders and grounded in the latest neuroscience research, our therapeutic model is woven into every aspect of our work at Safer Fostering. This isn’t an optional extra—it’s the foundation of everything we do.
From our fostering assessment and tools we use to our support strategies and training, we focus on evidence-based approaches that support children who have experienced trauma. Because we believe this is what truly makes a difference, we ask our foster parents to join us in embracing this way of working. In return, they receive outstanding support and the kind of long-term stability that helps families thrive.

Foster Care in Wales provided by Safer Fostering

Comprehensive Support

Support at Safer Fostering begins the moment you decide to join us. Our foster parents often describe it as a “warm hug” or like “finding their tribe.”
For those transferring from another agency, help is available straight away—even during the assessment process—so you’re not left managing difficult situations alone.
We offer a wide range of support, including:

  • In-depth therapeutic training
    Regular consultations with our therapist
  • Monthly Professional Therapeutic Development Groups
  • Informal coffee mornings with local foster parents
  • A dedicated Child Support Worker or Social Work Assistant for practical help
  • An Empathic Listener with lived experience of trauma-informed parenting
  • A named Therapeutic Social Worker providing consistent, expert support

We’re here—every step of the way.

Monitoring healthcare in foster children in Wales

Innovative Healthcare Initiative

Innovative Healthcare initiative
Getting a simple GP appointment nowadays is like trying to get your hands on Glastonbury tickets! On hold as soon as the phonelines open and wasting precious time you can ill afford. Who has the time and patience for it? Not busy foster parents, that’s for sure. Oh, and don’t get us started on waiting lists for consultants!

We get it. We really do.

This is why we decided to provide our foster families with comprehensive private health care. It covers everyone in the family; foster parents, foster children and all birth children under 18. It’s the least you deserve, so why wouldn’t we?

24/7 Support

We know how hard it can be for foster parents to access the healthcare and wellbeing support they need – navigating long phone queues for GP appointments and endless consultant waiting lists is the last thing a busy carer should have to deal with. That’s why SAfER foster parents benefit from a range of provisions designed to make life that little bit easier.

This includes membership to TIPs Hub, which brings together everything you need in one place:

  • Unlimited access to video-based, trauma-informed training
  • Virtual and face-to-face meet-ups with fellow foster parents
  • Access to The Haven — one-to-one support therapy for parents
  • A free printed TIPs magazine, delivered straight to your door

And because rest and family time matter too, SAfER foster parents also enjoy free caravan holidays at sites in Somerset and West Wales – a well-deserved chance to recharge and make memories together.
